Carpenter named assistant director of Transportation Insight Center for Entrepreneurship

TICFE Assistant Director Jonathan Carpenter

Jonathan Carpenter has been named assistant director of the Transportation Insight Center for Entrepreneurship (TICFE). Carpenter assumed his role in March 2015, joining TICFE Managing Director Erich Schlenker in supporting Appalachian students as they form and operate their own businesses.

Carpenter also serves as a Gear Up program specialist for Appalachian, aiming to help develop entrepreneurial programs focused on teaching middle and high school students the value of a college education though creative and solution-focused business ideas.

Most recently, Carpenter directed the marketing efforts of a fair trade import company that created markets for artisans and their products in an impoverished region of northern Brazil. Much of his entrepreneurial work has focused on creating sustainable models that use business to meet social needs.

Carpenter is an Appalachian alumnus, having earned his bachelor's degree in Economics and Entrepreneurship in 2012 and his MBA in 2014.

"It's great to have Jonathan on the team," said Schlenker. "His unique perspective as a recent App grad and his passion for entrepreneurship make him a real asset in the Center."

While a student at Appalachian, Carpenter participated in several entrepreneurial programs including pitch competitions, business planning, mentoring, and the accelerator program. As a past participant, he brings a unique perspective to further develop TICFE programs.
