Executive Mentoring Program
The goal of the Walker College Mentoring Program is to provide students with additional sources of perspective, guidance and advice as their academic, career and personal lives converge.
What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a relationship whereby a more experienced individual shares his or her knowledge, expertise and perspective with a less experienced individual who is willing to benefit and learn from the exchange.
It is:
- A voluntary, genuine and productive relationship
- A transfer of information and experience from one individual to another
- Focused on mentee learning, development and goals
- An enhancement of information and learning gathered from traditional sources including parents, professors, career counselors and academic advisors
It is not:
- a guarantee for employment with/from a mentor or his/her contacts
- a job interview
- a method of motivating a mentee who is unwilling to take initiative and responsibility for his/her own development
- a substitute for professional/clinical counseling
