Description

This trip is part of a course being offered in summer 1. We will have several class meetings discussion Brazilian geography, economy and society during the spring, prior to departure. The first leg of the trip will be from Charlotte to Manaus. We will spend the first four days in Manaus(in the heart of the Amazon jungle), followed by three days at a jungle lodge. We will visit research institutes, a jungle hydroelectric plans, local commercial enterprises and indigenous villages along the river. After our time in the Amazon we will travel to Rio de Janeiro to observe and evaluate the impact of the preparations for hosting the 2016 summer olympics.

Course:

  • BUS 3530 Business, Society and Sustainability in Brazil (3 s.h.) or
  • MBA 5020 International Seminar on Brazil (3 s.h.)

Pre-reqs: 60 earned hours for BUS 3530. Students who do not have the minimum hour requirement cannot take this course at the 3000-level and should inform the program leader of this situation before applying.

Credit: This course fulfills an IB elective (major, approved, required or other), HOS elective, COB elective or upper-level elective and fulfills the Global Issues requirement.

Cost: $3650. Includes airfare, lodging, group activities and most meals.
