Program Description

This program takes students to the rustic and adventurous region where the borders of Colombia, Peru and Brazil meet deep in the Amazon jungle. Students will live for a week in a small jungle village. This course will focus on the role of water as a shared good, and the importance of a reliable source of clean water to any society. Prior to the program, students will examine the impact of various industries on communal water supplies. To implement this program, the College of Business is partnering with Wine to Water, a local NGO committed to providing clean water to remote areas. Students will travel to Bogota, Colombia and from there fly to Leticia (in the Amazon jungle). After securing supplies, the group will travel by boat to the Amazonian village where students will engage in service activities associated with the provision of clean water to the village (well repair, digging, teaching hygiene, etc.). This is a standard program offered by Wine to Water which they are willing to tailor for ASU students. During this program student will have an authentic experience of Amazonian village life.
