Travel to Bermuda is the one-week experiential portion of FIN 4800 International Insurance Markets. Bermuda's economy is based on tourism and financial services. It is the largest domicile for captive insurers and home to some of the world's largest reinsurance companies. During students' time in Bermuda, they will visit reinsurers, brokers, regulators, and historical sites. In addition to business visits, students will also visit the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS). BIOS is a research and educational institution focusing on our oceans and the changing climate. While at BIOS students will learn from experts in climate change and risk modeling.
Bermuda is a leader in resilience and living in a sustainable community. It is home to scientists researching weather changes, specifically related to the Atlantic Ocean. Their research guides the potential impact on societies and will help all of us prepare to be more resilient in the face of climate change. The course will involve the study of legal, political, regulatory, and cultural environments.
