For students interested in an "international experience from home" this summer, there is a unique way to fulfill your Global Issues requirement. SCM 4530-101 Global Supply Chain Logistics in India / MBA 5020-101 Global Supply Chain Logistics & Analytics in India will "virtually" pair Appstate students with students from Kristu Jayanti College in Bangalore, India. Collaborative projects will address the impact of COVID-19 and other global pandemic or natural disasters on Global Supply Chain and Logistics. The course will include virtual tours of sites in India and videoconferences with industry professionals in Bangalore. Students will present their collaborative projects to executives from sponsor companies at the conclusion of the course.
The program will focus on the the transformation of materials and other inputs into products and services as well as the models of logistics in the global environment. The purpose of the course is to allow ASU students to observe first-hand business practices in Indian organizations that deal with global supply chain and logistics, evaluate their social context and its impact on operations and supply chain practices. Students will also examine the role analytics plays in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of global supply chain and logistics. Objectives include the production of high-quality products and services to satisfy requirements in a global competitive market.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All faculty-led program travel has been cancelled for summer 2021. The India program will take place in a virtual format and the dates of the program may be modified. There is no program cost for participation. Contact the program leaders if you are interested in participating.

SCM 4530 - This course counts as a Supply Chain elective(or substitutes for SCM 3690), and Advanced Entrepreneurship Experiential Elective, an IB elective (major, approved, required or other), HOS elective, COB elective or upper level elective and fulfills the Global Issues requirement.

MBA 5020 - This 3 semester hour course is an elective for the MBA international business, business analytics or supply chain concentration. It is also an elective for the MSADA supply chain management or interdisciplinary analytics concentration.

Lakshmi Iyer is Professor of Information Systems and Director of the Applied Data Analytics Graduate Programs at the Walker College of Business, Appalachian State University. Her research interests are in the area of emerging technologies & its impact on organizations and users, and social inclusion in computing. Dr. Iyer has been involved in community engaged outreach and scholarship that furthers the role of women in IT (wiit.uncg.edu). She is the founder and Director of the “IT is for Girls” at UNCG, an outreach program for middle and high-school girls that aims to increase their awareness about education and career paths in computing.

Dr. Dinesh S. Davè is the Director & Professor of Supply Chain Management in the Department Marketing & Supply Chain Management in John A. Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. He served as the Chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems & Supply Chain Management, the Director of Center for Business Research, and held the Beroth Oil Four Brothers Professorship. His teaching and research activities have been in the areas of Supply Chain & Global Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Quantitative Methods & Techniques, Analytical Models, Business Statistics, and Lean Six-Sigma Quality Management.
