Angers Summer Business Program

On this program, offered in collaboration with the Université d'Angers, students will take classes with Angers business students and learn international business skills, International Human Resource Management and International Brand Management in particular, while experiencing French culture and language. Excursions include visits to landmarks in Angers, the Loire valley and Paris. The program starts and ends in the train station in Angers, France.  

London - International Insurance Markets

Travel to London is the experiential portion of the spring semester course, FIN 4800 International Insurance Markets. This course is designed to expose students to international business concepts with particular emphasis on the insurance industry. We will analyze the transfer of risk from typical U.S. organizations, through the insurance market mechanism, to ultimate risk bearers abroad. Admission to the course is highly competitive, involves an application process and is by permission of instructor only.

Bermuda - International Insurance Markets

Travel to Bermuda is the one-week experiential portion of FIN 4800 International Insurance Markets.  Bermuda's economy is based on tourism and financial services. It is the largest domicile for captive insurers and home to some of the the world's largest reinsurance companies.  During our time in Bermuda we will visit reinsurers, brokers, regulators, and historical sites. Most of our time will be in Hamilton, but the first few days will be at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS).

Spain - SDG Issues & Opportunities -MBA 5020/BUS 4055

This is a 10-day study abroad course taking place during Spring Break 2024. This sustainable development goal (SDG) themed program aims to develop knowledge of Spain's sustainability issues and innovative solutions to these problems. The Spanish government prioritizes environmental actions toward SDGs 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. SDG action priorities include reducing the negative environmental impact of cities (SDG 11), protecting cultural and natural heritage (SDG 15), and managing waste (SDG 12).

Japan - Advanced International Sustainable Business Abroad/MBA 5020

The course aims to develop knowledge of Japan's sustainability issues and innovative solutions to these problems. Five SDG areas present major challenges for Japan: SDGs 3, 4, 5, 11 & 13. Several innovative sustainable development solutions have helped the country deal with these challenges, including smart cities, artificial intelligence, and robotics. This course teaches students valuable lessons about achieving these sustainable development goals through innovative solutions.

Brazil - Energy, Ecology & Environment/MBA 5020

Visit Rio de Janeiro and the magnificent Iguaçu Falls in an unforgettable program to Brazil this summer!  The 11 day program (May 14 to May 25), sponsored by the Walker College of Business, includes four nights at Iguaçu Falls (one of the 7 wonders of the modern world) and five nights in Rio de Janeiro.  The program focuses on renewable energy in Brazil and includes visits to the Itaipu dam and hydroelectric plant, as well as a visit to Brazil’s only nuclear power plant in Angra dos Reis.  There will be a side trip into Paraguay to explore less known geol

United Arab Emirates, Dubai - United Nations Climate Negotiations

United Nations Climate Change Negotiations 

Students are selected into the UN Climate Negotiations course and program through a competitive application process. The program is offered through the Walker College of Business and welcomes students from all disciplines. The course familiarizes students with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the annual Conference of the Parties (COP). Each fall, a delegation of students and faculty from App State travel to the COP and participate in the negotiations.
