Kyrgyzstan - Business in Kyrgyzstan: Pre- and Post-Soviet Era (BUS 4045/MBA 5020)

Program Dates
Monday, May 12, 2025 to Sunday, May 25, 2025
Description

Ever slept in a yurt? If not, come explore Kyrgyzstan! Kyrgyzstan is a small country in central Asia and one of the most mountainous countries in the world (its average elevation is about three times higher than Boone). The goal of this course is to see the evolution of Kyrgyzstan over the past century, with an emphasis on the pre-and post-soviet eras. To accomplish this objective, we will spend time in both metropolitan and rural Kyrgyzstan. The study tour will begin in Bishkek, the capital city. Here, we’ll visit a new creative business development hub and tour the Ata Beyit Memorial dedicated to the brutality of Russian rule under Stalin. After some time in Bishkek, we’ll hit the road to explore Ala-Archa National Park and visit Burana Tower to learn about the country’s Silk Road history. We’ll then travel to a smaller city, Karakol, where we’ll visit the community’s One Village One Product initiative and have dinner with a local Dungan family. There’s much more not listed here – contact  Dr. Steven Creek for additional details!
