About the MS in Applied Data Analytics Degree

Appalachian State University offers a Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics. This STEM designated degree provides students with not only the technical skills to work with data, but to do so within the business context. International students will enjoy 36 months (3 years) of Optional Practical Training (OPT). The program develops business professionals who understand and can apply data analytics concepts, techniques and tools to promote effective organizational decision-making and problem-solving.

Prerequisite Courses

Certain students may not have completed prerequisite courses in their undergraduate study that are required for several MS in Applied Data Analytics courses. Students have a variety of resources available to assist with completing those courses. Students will have access to online software and course materials on each topic. Contact the the  program at  msanalytics@appstate.edu to get more information about Prerequisite Courses. The 2 courses having prerequisite requirements are economics and statistics.

Program Duration

On-Campus Program: The MS in Applied Data Analytics is offered in a compressed time frame allowing the student to complete the program in one year from their start date by going full-time year round and taking summer classes and/or internships. We also offer rolling admission so you can start your program in the Fall, Spring, or Summer.

Practicum and Internship

Students do a Practicum to complete a relevant number of coursework hours which will provide them the opportunity to work with businesses in the local community.  Graduates of the program will have an integrated knowledge of business and analytics concepts, approaches and tools. Students will utilize established research centers and relationship with companies to capitalize upon opportunities to work with the business community, allowing them to learn first-hand how to apply knowledge gained through the curriculum in a real-world setting.

Executive Skills

Executive Skills is a course designed to help students aquire the necessary professional skills that may not be taught in the classroom. This course is designed to help the student develop important business skills, such as resume-building, interviewing, networking and self-promotion. Students will be required to enroll in Executive Skills (MBA 5820) during their final semester of the program.
