Walker alumnus Brad Sparks is Spring commencement speaker Brad Sparks, a 1997 Walker accounting graduate who credits the College's international programs for his business success, is the scheduled speaker for Spring Commencement. He will be speaking to the Walker College Class of 2012 during graduation ceremonies, scheduled for May 13 at 4:30 p.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center. Walker College APPlause Dr. Charles Oswald, who teaches within Walker College, was recently named an inaugural member of the North Carolina Bar Association Pro Bono Honor Roll for his work in the community providing legal services to those unable to pay. Alumna's book nominated for 2012 Small Business Book Award Restaurants are an eternal industry. Every town has at least one, whether mom and pop or corporate chain. As popular as the investment is, there aren't too many "how to" books for getting into the industry. Robin Gagnon '95 MBA saw that void, and recently wrote to fill it. Walker grad among the last troops to leave Iraq Posted on Jan 24, 2012 in Dean Sanders '86 MGT is home.The lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves - and a financial planner as a civilian - was among the last troops to leave Iraq as combat operations there ended late last year. He had two tours. During the first, in 2006, he helped train Iraqi secuirty forces. The second a couple years later was spent working as a civil affairs officer. Walker alumna rings closing bell at NASDAQ Posted on Dec 20, 2011 in One of the newest companies added to the NASDAQ rang in its debut on the stock market listing. Literally. Suzanne DeFerie '79 ACC, CEO of ASB Bancorp, Inc., rang the closing bell to end trading Monday. The event marked the company's addition to the exchange back in October. ASB Bancorp is beleived to be the first Asheville-based company to enjoy the honor.
