Aidan Heyl ’26 — A Mountaineer shaped by service and discipline

A Spring 2026 graduate of the Walker College of Business, Aidan Heyl brought a distinctive combination of military service, global perspective, and discipline to Appalachian State University.

Originally from South Africa, Aidan immigrated to the United States, where he later served as a United States Naval Aviation Rescue Swimmer.

The hard work and discipline developed in the United States Navy became cornerstones of his success at App State, shaping his approach to both academics and personal growth.

One transformative challenge came early: moving across the country alone to start school as a first-generation college student.

Before long, however, he found connection and community. Some of his most meaningful Appalachian memories were built outside the classroom, where living with four roommates led to lasting friendships and, eventually, meeting the person he calls the love of his life. And he graduates with a 4.0 in his major courses.

Reflecting on his college experience, Aidan encourages future Mountaineers to dive in fully. “Say yes to any opportunity,” he said.

Looking ahead, Aidan will work as a Cyber Defense Analyst at Gildan and hopes to become a Chief Information Security Officer someday, to apply his technical expertise alongside his growing strengths in service, perspective and discipline.

Aidan Heyl is one of approximately 1,000 Spring and Summer 2026 graduates of the Walker College of Business. Read more student stories: business.appstate.edu/news/students.
