Accounting professor's article in Strategic Finance earns certificate of merit in Lybrand Competition

An article by accounting professor Kim Zahller has earned a certificate of merit in the Lybrand Competition, presented by Strategic Finance Magazine.

Dr. Zahller is a professor of accounting in Appalachian State University's Walker College of Business. The article, "Adapting for the Not-for-Profit Audit" (June 2018), is a collaboration with Drs. Brian McAllister and Assma Sawani of the University of Colorado-Colorado Spring.

"Each year, the top manuscripts—by consensus grading of the reviewers—receive a Certificate of Merit in the Lybrand Competition," said Dr. Zahller. "The top three papers receive gold, silver and bronze awards respectively."

The article advises accounting professionals on what to do when they're asked to join charity boards and, by extension, audit committees because of their financial expertise and experience.

Strategic Finance is a monthly publication offering advice for financial professionals published monthly by the Institute of Management Accountants, the international professional body for cost/managerial accounting and administrator of the CMA certification.

The honors are part of the Lybrand Awards, presented annually by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), a professional organization focused on advancing the management accounting profession.
