App State RMI students attend South Carolina insurance convention

Four Appalachian State University students majoring in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) recently participated in the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of South Carolina’s annual convention, held in Hilton Head, South Carolina, this October.

The students — Hayes Sheridan, Aaron Anchell, Gareth Hicks, and Andrew Thomas — attended the event alongside Dillon Waschenbach, associate director of App State’s Brantley Risk & Insurance Center.

“Our students enjoyed the opportunity to network with a variety of business professionals,” Waschenbach said. “Events like this help bridge classroom learning with real-world industry experience.”

Conference participant Janice Johnt praised the students’ professionalism: “I had the pleasure of meeting them, and they represented App State so well. They were polite and asked great questions. The insurance industry’s future is bright!”

App State’s RMI program prepares students for diverse careers in the insurance and risk management sectors, including underwriting, claims, brokerage, surplus lines, employee benefits, and reinsurance.
