A team of four Appalachian State University students have advanced to compete in the semi-final round of the 2023 Spencer-RIMS Risk Challenge, an annual international case competition for the enterprise risk management field.
The students — Hannah Bagley, Marcella Gianni, Omar Gonzalez and Jon Jon Millner — are advancing to the semi-finals along with seven other teams, each that stood out from a field of 43 applicants. They will travel to Atlanta, Georgia on April 30 for the competition, to be held in conjunction with the RISKWORLD Annual Conference & Exhibition.
"The students received their assignment in November and worked so hard over the holidays to research the case and build a strong risk evaluation and report," said their advisor, Dr. Lori Medders. Medders is a faculty member in the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance and its Brantley Risk & Insurance Center.
App State won the challenge in 2022, and Gonzalez, an actuarial science major, was part of that winning team.
