App State's is one of eight teams from four countries to advance in insurance competition

Students from Appalachian State University will compete in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge at RISKWORLD® in San Diego, CA, for the Challenge’s top honor on May 5. 

The students, Carolina Davidson, Caroline Reeder, Ashley Weisser and Tom Phillips, will present their findings to a panel of judges and will answer questions in this annual global student competition that aims to inspire future risk leaders through a real-world business case study.

According to a press release, global student participation has reached a record-breaking level, with teams from nine different countries: Canada, China, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and USA. with the eight (out of 38 initial) teams who made the finals representing four countries. The teams are from:

  • Appalachian State University – Boone, NC, USA
  • Durban University of Technology – Durban, South Africa
  • Illinois State University – Normal, IL, USA
  • Institute of Insurance and Risk Management – Hyderabad, India
  • Milpark Education – Cape Town, South Africa
  • Peking University – Beijing, China
  • St. Mary's University – San Antonio, TX, USA
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison – Madison, WI, USA

 

Based on the solutions they developed for the 2024 case study, the top eight teams of 38 teams who entered were invited to compete.
