Beroth family business honored by Triad Biz for regional success and impact

Appalachian State University alumnus and Walker College of Business Advisory Council member emeritus Winfield Beroth was celebrated along with family members-turned-colleagues during the Triad Business Journal (TBJ) Family Business Awards ceremony on May 17, 2018.

Beroth '65 is a member of the three generations that have grown the Beroth Oil Co. and 4 Brothers Food Stores to a 175-employee organization since its founding by Vernice Beroth, Sr. in 1958.

TBJ selected the Beroth family as a recipient for outstanding community engagement, impact and leadership. Family Business awardees demonstrate proven family leadership, a track record of financial success and overcoming challenges, and careful attention to strategies, such as succession planning, that yield sustained growth, longevity and ensure a lasting legacy for the family and the community. According to the TBJ site, these family businesses help drive North Carolina's economy and strengthen the Triad region.

Beroth and his family have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Appalachian business students and faculty through coordination of the annual Beroth Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament provide funds for student scholarships, travel to conferences, research support and professorships at Appalachian.

The 26th annual Beroth Golf Tournament is set for October 3, 2018.

The 2018 TBJ Family Business Awards were presented by Dixon Hughes Goodman, Allegacy Federal Credit Union, MassMutual Carolinas and WorkForce Unlimited. The event, hosted by The Center for Private Business, was held on the campus of Wake Forest University.
