Bowden Investment Group's November Update

The Bowden Investment Group has released its November update, which provides an overview of the Bowden Fund portfolio, and reports on recruitment efforts and the FinTech industry.

The update also includes a feature on "Women in Bowden," as the 2021-22 yields the highest percentage of female members since the group's inception.

In the Finance, Accounting and Economics majors, female-identifying students make up less than 30% of the student population. Historically, this percentage has aligned with previous BIG classes with an overall average of two to three women per class since the fund began. This year's class is thrilled to have four female students representing the Bowden Investment Group, yielding a higher percentage of woman than the overall department major. Members Courtney Prevette, Caroline Alba, Brandy Crump, and Hailey Shoesmith are proud to represent the group and would recommend more women to consider applying to The Bowden Investment Group. Dr. Hadley has greatly encouraged the success of women in financial services, and has done the same to inspire growth among our women in BIG.

About Appalachian's Bowden Investment Group

The Elbert V. Bowden Investment Group provides an opportunity for students to gain hands-on investment experience as part of an investment management course. The Elbert V. Bowden Student Managed Investment Fund was established in January 2000 in the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance at Appalachian State University and financial donations from alumni, faculty, businesses and other supporters have added to the fund's total net assets. Students analyze investment opportunities and manage a real investment portfolio, with the goal of a return on invested funds that exceeds the return on the S&P 500 Index.
