Broyhill Fellows named Southeastern U.S. CFA Institute Research Challenge champs

Appalachian State University's Broyhill Fellows team has earned the title of Southeastern champions after triumphing in the Southeastern U.S. sub-regional round of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. App State teams have won four out of the five Southeastern Subregional competitions.

With this achievement, the students—Keira Andrews, Carson Beane, Jack Parquette, Davis Pharr, and Brenden Wortman—advance to the next round of the competition, where they will represent not only App State but also North Carolina and the entire Southeastern U.S.

CFA Institute Research Challenge – Americas Competition

In the Americas regional semifinals, April 8-9, the students will compete against: California State University, Fullerton (CFA Society Los Angeles),  Fairfield University (CFA Society New York), Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (CFA Society Chile) and the University of Alberta (CFA Society Calgary, CFA Society Edmonton, CFA Society Saskatchewan, and CFA Society Winnipeg).

This will be the first of potentially two Americas Rounds for the students; the Americas regional finals will be held April 10-11.

Advancing teams will compete in the competition's Global Rounds.

About App State's Bowden Investment Group

The Elbert V. Bowden Investment Group allows students to gain hands-on investment experience as part of an investment management course. The Elbert V. Bowden Student Managed Investment Fund was established in January 2000 in the Department of Finance, Banking, and Insurance at Appalachian State University, and financial donations from alumni, faculty, businesses, and other supporters have added to the fund's total net assets. Students analyze investment opportunities and manage a real investment portfolio, aiming for a return on invested funds that exceeds the return on the S&P 500 Index.
