Three from the Walker College of Business were honored with Appalachian State University Awards of Distinction.
Dr. Charlie Chen, professor in App State's Department of Computer Information Systems, earned the 2025 University of North Carolina Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Brandy Hadley, associate professor in App State’s Department of Finance, Banking & Insurance, is among the five selected for Appalachian State University School/College Awards.
Annie Johnson, associate director of curriculum, data and technology in Business Career Services, earned a Staff Excellence Award from App State's Office of Human Resources.
Charlie Chen
Chen joined App State’s faculty in 2003 and holds a Dean's Club Professorship. He has taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels, covering topics such as information technology in organizations, project management, supply chain management, and business analytics. He is a past recipient of the Walker College’s Sywassink Award for Excellence in Research, with interests in business analytics, project management, and supply chain management. Chen is a regular study-abroad trip leader to China, Japan, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand and is a two-time Walker College’s Global Engagement Awardee. Chen earned a bachelor’s degree from Tamsui Oxford College in Taipei, a master's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a PhD in Management Information Systems from Claremont Graduate University.
Brandy Hadley
Hadley joined App State's faculty in 2017 and serves as the David A. Thompson Distinguished Scholar of Applied Investments and as lead faculty advisor for the Bowden Investment Group. She is the 2023 recipient of the Walker College of Business Sywassink Excellence Award for Teaching. Hadley is a two-time App State graduate, earning bachelor's degrees in finance and banking, and in risk management and insurance in 2009, and an MBA in 2011. Hadley earned her Ph.D. in finance from the University of Tennessee.
Annie Johnson
In her role, Johnson develops the curriculum for and coordinates the delivery of the Career Development for Business Students course. She is a two-time alumna of App State, having earned her Master of Public Administration in 2020 and her bachelor's degree in economic development from the Walker College of Business in 2016.
