Davis named Banking Hall of Famer, reflects on his 47th year at App State

The Appalachian's Kayla Masterman recently wrote an article entitled NC Banker Hall of Famer begins his 47th year at App State.

The Hall of Famer featured is Dr. Harry Davis, App State's NCBA Professor of Banking, dean of the North Carolina Banking Association's School of Banking, and the longest-serving faculty member in Appalachian State University's Walker College of Business.

Regarding his longevity at App State, Davis shared that he has been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.

Since its inception in 1970, Walker College has experienced tremendous growth and development, and Dr. Davis has been involved for nearly the duration, serving as a teacher, leader, and community engagement expert (in formal and informal capacities).

Davis was in attendance when the college commemorated its 50th anniversary on April 7, 2022 (belatedly, due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic) with alumni, faculty members, and past leaders.

Davis partially attributed his longevity to outstanding students and faculty in the college.

Five people who came out of Davis’ classes became bank presidents.

He said Dr. Ken Peacock, Dr. Heather Norris, and Dr. Sandra Vannoy, all who served as college dean, impacted him and his career.

One reason Davis has remained at App State for 47 years is because of the great bosses he has had. He said if you don’t like your boss, it’s hard to enjoy your job, so he feels very fortunate.

While Davis may tend to deflect the spotlight, the North Carolina Bankers Association made sure he was honored for his achievements, including helping start 27 banks in North Carolina.

He and three others were inducted into the NC Banking Hall of Fame on September 30, 2024.
