The Department of Accounting in the Walker College of Business provides students internship and seminar opportunities to prepare accounting students for graduation and a successful launch into the world of professional accounting.
The Department of Accounting boasts a record number of students participating in accounting internships Spring 2016. Ninety students will be interning with companies throughout the Carolinas.
Internships, which typically occur during a student's senior year, provide relevant, real world work experience that let students test their career path. Interns develop skills, earn relevant experience, and help create a professional network. The internship experience ensures that students receive practical, work-related knowledge and skills, prior to graduation.
Beginning in early January, most accounting interns work either in audit (ten weeks) or tax (fifteen weeks), before returning to campus after Spring Break to accelerated courses. Often, internships offer accounting majors the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining valuable experience in the accounting profession at a company where they may soon be employed.
In addition to the growing number of internships in the program, the Department of Accounting organizes the Junior Year Experience, a series of seminars to provide junior-level accounting majors information that will prepare them for the recruiting process. Junior Year Experience is possible through partnerships with Beta Alpha Psi and professional accounting firms, and seminar topics include professional opportunities in accounting, the recruiting process, resume building, interview skills, the masters program in accounting, dining etiquette and more.
The seminars take place during the spring semester of our students' junior year.
The first Junior Year Experience seminar for Spring 2016 will be held Monday, February 8th. The 10th largest accounting first in the United States, Cohn Reznick will be presenting on Interviewing & Networking Tips. Learn more about Appalachian's Junior Year Experience.
