Dr. Scott Hunsinger to serve as chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University

Dr. Scott Hunsinger has been named chair for the Department of Computer Information Systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University.

Dr. Hunsinger has served as interim chair in the department since February 2020.

In addition, Dr. Hunsinger’s leadership experience includes service as managing director of Appalachian’s Center for Analytics Research & Education and as dean of academic affairs and information technology in the NC Community College System, a role he held before joining Appalachian’s faculty.

“I appreciate the work Scott has done for the past year in his interim role, and I look forward to continuing to work with him as a member of the leadership team in the Walker College,” said Walker College Acting Dean Sandra Vannoy.

Dr. Hunsinger, who joined Appalachian’s faculty in 2004, has previously held the L.M. Baker Jr. Partners in Excellence Professorship and earned several awards for his teaching and service. Dr. Hunsinger is a two-time recipient of the college’s Sywassink Awards for Excellence, having received the teaching award in 2011 and the service award in 2015. He also received Appalachian’s W. H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion in 2012 a UNC Board of Governors Teaching Award in 2013.

Dr. Hunsinger earned his MBA and PhD in Information Technology from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
