Walker College of Business students are collaborating not only within classes, clubs and business disciplines, but also across cultural barriers and even continents.
Finance and Banking senior and Finance Student Association (FSA) president Corey Miller is partnering with a finance student organization at the University Buea institute in Cameroon, Central Africa. The two organizations are currently working together to bring local orphans into the University Buea institute for a day of fun and learning. After the visit, the university plans to take them to a local store and provide money to provide a lesson on budgeting and finance.
The collobration began in December when Miller began a pen-pal relationship with a University Buea student.
According to Miller, while FSA's main goals are to better acquaint their members with the many career opportunities in banking and finance and to promote networking with finance professional, encouraging and supporting community outreach has also been a huge part of the club's purpose.
"I believe that both parties involved are passionate about better serving our community. I gained that desire from coming to Appalachian as a freshman and witnessing such a powerful and tight community press onward into the future with such great ideas and friendly collaboration, and I think that contagious spirit may have just spread to Africa," said Miller.
