Four have been named 2015 recipients of the W.H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion by Appalachian's Board of Trustees.
Mr. Merrick Marquie a W. H. Plemmons Fellow, Ms. Zoe Deloglos, Student Leader, Dr. Unal Boya, Faculty Member and Mr. Dayton Cole, Staff Member.
Unal Boya is the chairperson in the Walker College's Department of Marketing. In addition to teaching courses both at undergraduate and graduate levels, Boya is active in promoting and participating in international programs and recently earned an Appalachian Global Leadership Award. Boya holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Merrick Marquie is a senior from Apex, NC majoring in Economics, Marketing and Management (with a concentration in Entrepreneurship) and minoring in International Business and Mathematics. Marquie is a Heltzer Honors and Walker College of Business Honors student as well as a Plemmons' Leadership Fellow.
The awards recognize the time, energy, skills, and commitment of students, faculty, student development educators and staff who exceed their peers in providing leadership that enriches the quality of student life and advances the education of students.
Named in honor of Dr. William H. Plemmons, the university's second president, the awards will be presented during Appalachian's Fall Convocation, scheduled for September 3, 2015.
