Guidance from banking professor featured in Boone Chamber's 'Economic Indicators' report

A summary of local economic impacts written by Dr. Harry Davis, NC Bankers Professor at  Appalachian State University, was featured in the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Q4 Economic Indicators of 2025.

This quarterly report examines five key statistics within the Watauga County & High Country Economy: Residential Home Sales, Sales Tax, Occupancy Tax, Unemployment Rates, and New Single-Family Homes.

“The economic situation at the national, state, and local levels is amazingly stable. GDP has actually increased at the national level, and employment and inflation are moving very little,” said Dr. Davis. “North Carolina continues to be the number one state for business, according to CNBC. Our state revenue and employment are very steady. The numbers for Watauga County and the High Country are improving, but at a very steady rate. We will avoid a recession this year as the FED continues to cut rates to stimulate the economy.”

A North Carolina Bankers Association Hall of Fame inductee, Davis is a frequent speaker at state, regional and national banking conventions on economic and banking issues.
