Cassidy Zekas, a graduate student in the MA in IOHRM—Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management—program was recently featured by Appalachian State University's College of Arts & Sciences for his research, which was funded in part by the Student and Faculty Excellence (SAFE) grant program.
Zekas presented his work at the River Cities I-O (RCIO) Psychology Conference in Chattanooga, TN, October 21-22, 2023. His research on the opportunities psychology majors have outside of the field of psychology assesses how psychology students can apply their skills to business and technology and identify gaps in their skills that could make them more marketable in those fields.
App State's IOHRM program is an interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree through the Departments of Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences and Management in the Walker College of Business. Students receive specialized training in human resource management with an emphasis on developing knowledge of theories, methods, and research findings derived from the behavioral sciences.
Zekas also presented research November 8-9, 2024 at the 20th Annual RCIO Conference at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. One of Zekas' two accepted works, Neurodiversity in Hiring: Language That Resonates, is co-authored by Walker College assistant professor Jessica Doll and Department of Management Assistant Chair Kristl Davison.
App State's master's degree in IOHRM prepares graduates for work in business, industry, and government, where they will address organizational activities such as employee selection, placement, motivation, training and development, performance appraisal, and organization development and change.
