BOONE, N.C.—Dr. Lakshmi Iyer has been named Program Director of Applied Data Analytics at Appalachian State University.
Iyer will join Appalachian’s faculty as a professor in the Walker College of Business’ Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management, effective July 1.
As program director, Iyer will lead the Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics degree program that Appalachian launched in 2016 to help bridge the gap between industry demand and skills in the area of big data.
Iyer most recently served as director of graduate programs in the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG). Under her leadership, enrollment in UNCG’s information systems and supply chain graduate programs more than doubled. She was also instrumental in establishing an analytics concentration at the Master of Science in Information Technology and Management level as well as a graduate certificate in business analytics.
“Dr. Lakshmi Iyer brings a wealth of administrative experience in managing and growing graduate programs, and in building partnerships with the business and professional community,” said Dr. Sandy Vannoy, associate dean for graduate programs and research in the Walker College. “Further, she is a seasoned teacher and researcher.”
Iyer’s research interests include emerging information and communication technology organizations and users, social inclusion and information technology (IT), business intelligence/analytics, healthcare IT, decision support systems and knowledge management.
Her work has been published in respected journals including the Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), Decision Support Systems (DSS), Journal of Computer Information Systems, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Information Systems Management and others.
Iyer is a board member for the Teradata University Network – a free portal for the global academic community that provides resources for teaching and research in the fields of analytics, business intelligence, and decision support – and is a board member for the Association of Information Systems (AIS) Special Interest Group in Decision Support and Analytics (SIGDSA).
Iyer earned a Ph.D. in business administration with a major in management science and information technology and a minor in computer science from the University of Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Alabama and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Bangalore University in India.
