Johnathan Smith '18 and Abby Young '18: From my first day at App, I fell in love with the college and with Boone

Students in the Walker College of Business learn to build relationships and develop an Appalachian State University network.

Sometimes the connections go beyond professional.

One such connection is Walker College of Business couple Johnathan Smith '18 FIN and Abby Young '18 ACC, who spent a lot of time together as undergraduates in Peacock Hall. They shared a mutual affinity for Starbucks and Mountaineer football, too.

"From my first day at App, I fell in love with the college and with Boone," said Smith.

Young agreed, "It’s pretty hard to find anything that compares to the feeling of hospitality you get in the community."

The two believe that earning a business degree while taking advantage of App State's low student to faculty ratio helped make their time at school exceptional.

"I think it all starts with the professors and the level of care they are able to provide to students," said Smith. "The opportunities are endless if you take the time to get involved and there is support at every corner."

Smith was President of the Bowden Investment Group his senior year. Young was a member of Women of Walker and Gamma Beta Phi. Both were members of the Walker Fellows.

Today, Smith and Young are: senior associate at Dimensional Fund Advisors and senior financial analyst at Bank of America, respectively, and live and work in Charlotte, NC.

As Dean's Club members, Young and Smith contribute to the continued success of future graduates like them. Even (especially) those who are making their own connections in Boone!
