Eleven Walker College of Business students attended the Beta Alpha Psi Southeast Regional Meeting in Raleigh February 24-26. The conference, themed The Best is Yet to Be, offered opportunities to develop leadership and presentation skills and to network and share chapter development ideas.
The students are accounting students and leaders of Appalachian State University's Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi - the International Honor Organization for Financial Information Students and Professionals.
Conference activities included a keynote address by Richard Nichols, Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, team building exercises, lectures by professionals on new developments in accounting, and team presentations.
Appalachian presented in three categories: community outreach, strategic planning, and chapter operations. Appalachian placed second in the community outreach competition; the students presented on an innovative new program providing financial literacy training for foster children. The team also discussed firm presentations, alumni events, and chapter fundraisers used to grow and strengthen the chapter's community.
Appalachian attendees said the conference was a valuable learning experience and members hope to attend the Annual Meeting in California this summer.
