Matt Alspaugh ‘01 is the Controller for Lowder, Inc., a locally family owned and operated construction company based out of Winston-Salem, NC specializing in site development, grading and utilities.

Matt is from the Triad of NC and grew up in Yadkin County where he attended Forbush High School.  Matt was recruited by Appalachian’s head coach Jerry Moore to be a linebacker on the football team.  He played from ’96 through the ’99 conference championship season and graduated with a BSBA in Management in the spring of ’00. Following graduation, he enrolled in Appalachian’s 12-month MBA program where he received his degree in August of ’01.

Matt was hired by an Appalachian alumnus to be the Assistant Controller and Credit Manager for Murray Supply, a plumbing, pipe and valve wholesaler based out of Winston-Salem, NC. After 4 years there, he became the Controller where he oversaw all the accounting and finance functions of the growing business. Following 16 years of employment and the acquisition by a Texas based company, Matt found a new opportunity with Lowder, Inc. where he is now leading and managing a growing team of industry professionals while directing the accounting, finance and human resource departments.

Matt is a proud Appalachian alumnus who loves spending time in Boone with his wife Katie, who is also an Appalachian graduate, along with their two sons, Jacob (12) and Luke (9). They are football season ticket holders and attend many App sporting events throughout each season. They are very involved in their local church and community and are extremely proud to be part of the Appalachian Family.
