McEvoy named chair in the Department of Economics

Dr. David (Dave) McEvoy has been named chair for the Department of Economics in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University.

Dr. McEvoy has served as interim economics chair since August 2020, when he assumed the role left vacant upon Dr. Todd Cherry’s departure from the university. From August 2020 through December 2020, Dr. McEvoy provided dual service as interim economics chair and associate dean of undergraduate programs and administration for the Walker College.

“I am grateful for the tremendous level of service Dr. McEvoy has provided to the college over the past year and a half,” said Walker College Acting Dean Sandra Vannoy. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with him as he leads our Department of Economics.”

About Dr. McEvoy

Dr. McEvoy joined the faculty at Appalachian in 2007 and, prior to being named associate dean in 2019, served as director of Appalachian’s Experimental Economics Laboratory. He is an accomplished researcher in the fields of environmental and experimental economics. 

Dr. McEvoy is a previous Sywassink Awardee for excellence in teaching and a past Dean’s Club professor. He received his M.S. from University College London and Ph.D. from University of Massachusetts, both in environmental economics.
