Meet the firms series provides forum for accounting students to gain internships, employment opportunities

Appalachian State University's Department of Accounting recently hosted the annual Meet the Firms series, a program that provides a forum for business students to network with industry professionals for internship and recruiting conversations.

The four-night series occurs annually during the first two weeks of the fall semester, in advance of the accounting industry's prime hiring season.

During the 2016 Meet the Firms, held in the Plemmons Student Union on Appalachian's campus, representatives from 19 different companies, including 18 public accounting firms participated. Four to five companies were in attendance each night. The firms held informal meet and greet sessions with over 100 students interested in finding an internship or permanent employment.

"Meet the Firms is a wonderful opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with potential employees," said Appalachian Accounting Professor Pennie Bagley. "And employers are able to identify those students that may be a good fit for their companies."
