Appalachia Cookie Company, a Boone-based business that Appalachian State University Alumnus David Holloman '13 founded as a student while in the Walker College of Business, is featured in the Food Network's November 2024 feature Seriously Delicious Chocolate Chip Cookies You Can Order Online.
"We found the best chocolate chip cookies no matter what your taste," states the feature by Samantha Lande, a Chicago-based freelance writer, and TK Brady.
What started as a late-night food hobby for founder David Holloman while at Appalachian State University, turned into a booming cookie business with lots of accolades and cookie sales since his original college apartment kitchen. The company still calls the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina home. There are many cookie varieties to choose from, but their Chocolate Chip are made the old-fashioned way with plenty of melty milk chocolate chips throughout.
Holloman earned his BSBA from App State with a major in Marketing and Entrepreneurial Management and a minor in Supply Chain Management and Sustainable Development. As a student, Holloman worked with staff in App State's Transportation Insight Center for Entrepreneurship to launch Appalachia Cookie Company.
"David was a great student," said Erich Schlenker, managing director of App State's Transportation Insight Center for Entrepreneurship. "He took first place in our business plan competition." The center regularly hosts business plan and idea pitch competitions to showcase student ideas for new ventures. According to Schlenker, the competitions help students take ideas out of their heads and sometimes pitch them for real money and with real investors.
Appalachia Cookie Company aims to bake and deliver a high-quality product to customers while bettering the community and environment in which they operate. Read more about the company, Holloman and the cookies' "humble beginnings" online, https://appcookieco.com/pages/our-story.
