As more students seek flexible pathways to earn their degrees, Walker College of Business faculty are creating new ways for online learners to access the professional connections and career opportunities traditionally associated with on-campus programs.
This fall, Accounting Practitioner-in-Residence John Bean and Accounting Lecturer Brandy Havens organized a series of virtual career fairs that connected online accounting students with employers, including six public accounting firms and four additional organizations with a significant presence in North Carolina.
Designed for remote learners, the events allowed employers to join scheduled Zoom sessions to discuss their organizations, career paths and employment opportunities while students interacted with recruiters and professionals from across the state.
Dozens of accounting majors participated, gaining valuable networking opportunities, firsthand industry insight and advice from professionals working in the field.
“These virtual career fairs provided a valuable opportunity for our online accounting students to learn about potential career paths, connect with employers and explore opportunities available to them after graduation,” said Dr. Pennie Bagley, chair of App State's Department of Accounting. “We are excited to continue finding innovative ways to support student success and career readiness, wherever our students are learning.”
App State offers the BSBA in Accounting in Boone, Hickory and online, providing students with multiple pathways to complete their degree while benefiting from the resources, faculty expertise and employer connections of the Walker College of Business.
