Sarah Lingle leaves Appalachian State University with not only a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics, but also strong analytical skills and a global perspective.
A standout student in the Walker College of Business, Sarah was selected as a Holland Fellow, a prestigious program that fosters international collaboration and leadership.
“Holland Fellows was such an incredible opportunity,” Sarah said. “I made lifelong friends, and the trip changed my perspective on life. I’m truly grateful for Jesse Pipes, Wendy Deng, and Matt Dull for their leadership and constant support.”

In addition to Holland Fellows, at App State Sarah was inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon honors society, certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist, selected as a Walker College representative in the 2025 Truist Immersive Learning Experience, participated in the Duke-UNC China Leadership Summit, and competed with App State’s Future Business Leaders of America - Collegiate chapter at the North Carolina State Leadership conference.
Sarah’s advice to future Mountaineers? “Look for every study abroad opportunity!”
Sarah credits her “econ girl group” for keeping her motivated through challenging coursework. “Economics is not an easy major,” she said. “During my junior year, I was in the hardest class in the department. That’s where I met my group of friends who inspired me to keep going. They’ve been with me through all the hard study times.”

Sarah’s hard work and global mindset have already opened doors. After interning with PNC Private Bank in Raleigh last summer, she earned a return offer and will begin her career as an analyst with PNC in 2026. Sarah’s story reflects the Walker College’s commitment to preparing graduates who combine academic rigor with global experiences to succeed in a competitive marketplace.
