Six App State students to travel to Belém, Brazil to participate in United Nations Conference of the Parties

Six students from Appalachian State University have been selected for the 2025 UN Climate Negotiations Program, which gives students a front-row seat at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its annual Conference of the Parties (COP).

The students are:

  • Emily Charlip, MS Applied Data Analytics and MBA
  • Sofie Crump, BS in Sustainable Development; Minor in General Business
  • Grace Houle, BA in Environmental Economics and Policy; Minor in Sustainable Business
  • Breana Meyer, BA in International Business; Minor in Spanish
  • Tyler Nece, BA in Sustainable Development; Minor in Sustainable Business
  • Alex Pecoraro, BA in International Economics; Minor in Political Science

The student delegation, accompanied by two faculty members, will travel from November 8-17 to participate in COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

"Our planet’s climate crisis poses threats to all of us, making it necessary for international collaboration to take place," noted Crump. "As extreme weather events become more severe and more frequent, climate policy comes to the forefront of international politics."
