Asher Fazal, a junior sustainable business management major at Appalachian State University, has earned the Community Impact Student Award, presented by North Carolina Campus Engagement, a statewide network of colleges and universities committed to preparing students for civic and social responsibility.
The award honors one student leader at each member school who has demonstrated a deep commitment to community involvement and an ability to inspire their peers to serve.
Fazal received the award on November 13, 2024, during a virtual Engagement Matters Awards Ceremony.

Fazal has been an active student leader at App State. They have supported student engagement as an involvement assistant in the Campus Activities Office, where they coordinate with more than 100 on-campus organizations to provide resources for student engagement, support students seeking involvement opportunities, and contribute to campus activities projects.
Fazal also served as the Vice President of Development for the Appalachian Popular Programming Society, where they planned programming that enriched the student experience on campus while promoting the leadership development of more than 200 student members.
“Asher is widely recognized on campus for creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, making others feel valued, and consistently finding solutions to challenges as they arise,” said Heather Jo Mashburn, Director of Community Engaged Leadership.
