The Walker College of Business dean's office has been certified by Appalachian State University as a green office at the Elk Knob level.
The certification recognizes campus workspaces at Appalachian that have taken extra steps to have greener operations and lower their daily carbon footprint. Certification is contingent on completing all prerequisites and the questions in each of seven categories (Energy & Water, Food & Events, Health & Wellness, Purchasing, Service & Community Engagement, Transportation and Zero Waste).
The certification levels are: Rocky Knob - 50-100, Howard's Knob - 101-150, Elk Knob - 151-200, and Grandfather Mountain - 201+. The dean's office scored 197.
The Walker College is pursuing the green workplace certification in its six departments as well as the dean's office. The certification is voluntary and lasts for three years, although departments may re-take the certification as often as desired to improve the score.
Walker College of Business Resource Coordinator Sabrina Cheves serves as the Walker College of Business dean's office sustainability liaison.
