Walker College faculty, student associations recognized by App State

The Office of Campus Activities at Appalachian State University recently announced the recipients of the 2024-25 Black and Gold Leadership Awards, which recognize the outstanding accomplishments of clubs, club members, and advisors. 

Among the groups and individuals honored were assistant professor of management and advisor to Hospitality and Tourism Management Student Association, Dr. Danni Capps, and Gamma Iota Sigma, the professional collegiate insurance organization in the Walker College of Business.

Gamma Iota Sigma, Student Organization of the Year

Gamma Iota Sigma was named Student Organization of the Year. 

The association, housed in the college's Brantley Risk & Insurance Center, aims to promote, encourage, and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science as a profession. It promotes high moral and scholastic attainments and facilitates the interaction and cooperation of educational institutions, industry, and professional organizations by fostering research, scholarship, and improved public relations.

Danni Capps, Outstanding Advisor

Dr. Danni Capps was named outstanding organization advisor.

Capps is an assistant professor in the Department of Management at Walker College who teaches hospitality and tourism management. According to her students, Capps’ “passion for hospitality is contagious.”  She is co-advisor to the Hospitality and Tourism Management Student Association, which provides a professional development environment for hospitality students preparing for the future through guest speakers and recruiting opportunities.
