Walker College professor earns faculty scholarship to attend SAS Global Forum

Walker College of Business Professor Charlie Chen is attending the SAS Global Forum April 2-5, 2017.  Chen, a professor in Appalachian State University's Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management is one of 10 professors nationwide to earn a 2017 Faculty Scholarship to attend. 

SAS PosterSAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics, multivariate analyses, business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics. Thousands of SAS users from 148 countries are attending the forum to learn about innovative new research and applications.

Appalachian utilizes the software, which is been provided free as part of a $3 million grant from SAS Institute to the University of North Carolina system, in teaching and research.

As the demand for workers skilled in business analytics has been rapidly growing, SAS, a premier business analytics solutions provider, has partnered with the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University to offer its products to students enrolled in the MBA program, MS in Applied Data Analytics, and Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics. 

"Dr. Chen is dedicated to helping his students gain in-demand analytics skills using SAS software," said Walker College Associate Dean of Graduate Programs Sandra Vannoy. "Dr. Chen helped develop new courses, including courses in Project Management and Visualization and Web Analytics for the new master’s degree program. Moreover, he has been a popular guest speaker invited by universities in China, Taiwan and Thailand to conduct a seminar on Big Data in those countries."
