Walker College releases 2018 diversity report

The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University has released its 2018 report on inclusive excellence initiatives.

The college's inclusive excellence team (formerly the diversity advisory team) was launched in 2014 in response to a culture survey suggesting a college-wide need for more support and development regarding issues of diversity and inclusion. The team, chaired by Dr. Jamie Anderson Parson, an assistant professor of finance, works to evaluate and assist with program development in the college relating to inclusion.

According to Dr. Parson, the college defines diversity broadly including, but not limited to, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, disability, veteran status and first-generation students. "We believe an appreciation of individuals from a multitude of backgrounds and experiences is a necessity in a global workforce," said Parson. "Our goal is an inclusive culture where the uniqueness of each individual is valued."
