The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University announces the appointments of new faculty members to begin the Fall 2022 semester.

Accounting

The Department of Accounting welcomes one new lecturer, Zachary Lachance. 

Zachary Lachance

After working in public accounting for several years in Charlotte, North Carolina, Zachary Lachance comes to App State as a lecturer in the Department of Accounting. Most recently, Lahance was a senior internal auditor for Extended Stay America. He is a two-time App State alumnus, having earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the Walker College in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Computer Information Systems

The Department of Computer Information Systems welcomes three new faculty members, associate professor Russell Haines, assistant professor Deepti Agrawal, and lecturer Maureen Allen.

Russell Haines 

Dr. Russell Haines will serve as an associate professor of computer information systems. Dr. Haines brings practical and teaching experience in the Information Systems and Technology field, including networking, cybersecurity, systems development, web development, database design, project management and information policy. He comes to App State from the University of Münster, Germany, where he most recently served as a visiting professor. Dr. Haines’ research interests include virtual teams and computer-mediated communication. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Brigham Young University and a PhD in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston. Deepti Agrawal

Dr. Deepti Agrawal will serve as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems. Most recently, Dr. Agrawal was an assistant professor of information technology and cybersecurity at Missouri State University. Dr. Agrawal’s research interests include the adoption and use of information technology, open innovation and IT ecosystems, and Information Security. She earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the University of Memphis. Dr. Agrawal can be reached by email, agrawald@appstate.edu.

Maureen Allen

Maureen Nowak Allen will serve as a computer information systems lecturer. Allen is a business owner and technical consultant who has previously served as an App State visiting lecturer from Elon University. She holds an MBA from Elon and a Post Master in Information Systems and Operations Management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Economics

The Department of Economics welcomes lecturer Jennifer (Jenny) Gallagher.

Jenny Gallagher

Jenny Gallagher will serve as a lecturer in the Department of Economics. Gallagher’s research interests are in behavioral economics, and she holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from UNC Charlotte. Gallagher can be reached by email, gallagherjl@appstate.edu.

Finance, Banking & Insurance

The Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance welcomes three new faculty members: assistant professor Sabina Pandey and adjunct professors Sam Kaufman and Nate Weigl.

Sabina Pandey

Dr. Sabina Pandey will serve as an assistant professor in the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance. She most recently served as an instructor at Texas Tech University, where she taught fundamentals of personal financial planning at the graduate level. Dr. Pandey’s research interests include household investment and risk management. She earned her Bachelors in Business Administration from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu-Nepal, an MS in Finance from the University of Nevada Reno, and a PhD in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University. Sam Kaufman

Sam Kaufman will serve as an adjunct professor in the department. Kaufman most recently served as a managing director and team leader for institutional fixed income sales at Wells Fargo Securities. He is a Walker College alumnus, having earned his BSBA in marketing from App State, as well as an MBA in finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Nate Weigl

Dr. Nate Weigl will serve as an adjunct professor in the department. He also serves as director of operations for App State’s Transfer Admissions & Engagement – a role he will continue. Dr. Weigl earned his BS in mathematics - secondary education from the University of Arizona, an MS in mathematics education from Towson University, and both an MBA and EdD from App State. Management

The Department of Management welcomes six new faculty members, assistant professors Nicholas Poggioli and Tiberiu Ungureanu, lecturer Madhavi Nandi, and adjunct professors Kelly Propst, Tuesday Rice, and Gray Shipley.

Nicholas Poggioli

Dr. Nicholas Poggioli will serve as an assistant professor in the Department of Management. His research interests include sustainable business and knowledge production. Dr. Poggioli most recently served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan’s Erb Institute. He earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota. Tiberiu Ungureanu

Dr. Tiberiu Sergiu Vasile Ungureanu is an assistant professor of management whose research focuses on understanding how firm structure influences the resource allocation process, especially between exploration and exploitation activities. Dr. Ungureanu holds a BS from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania, and his MBA and PhD from the Ohio State University. Madhavi Nandi

Dr. Madhavi Latha Nandi Management will serve as lecturer of management at App State. Dr. Nandi most recently served as a manufacturing systems coordinator and industrial engineer for Continental. Previously, she taught part-time at the University of South Carolina Sumter and T.A.Pai Management Institute in India. Dr. Nandi earned her MSE in manufacturing engineering from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and her PhD in Management from Xavier University, India. Gray Shipley

Gray Shipley will serve as an adjunct lecturer in the department. Shipley, whose research interests include the intersection of food quality, nutrition and good agricultural practices, is a partner at Boone-headquartered Shipley Farms. Shipley earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Alabama and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Shipley can be reached by email, shipleyrg@appstate.edu.

Marketing & Supply Chain Management

The Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management welcomes three new faculty members, visiting associate professor Stephanie Lawson and adjunct faculty members Patricia (Trish) Oxford and Jamie Yoch.

Stephanie Lawson

Dr. Stephanie Lawson is an associate professor in the Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management. Dr. Lawson comes to App State from Winthrop University, where she served as an associate professor of marketing and associate dean of graduate programs and accreditation. Dr. Lawson’s research focuses on collaborative consumption, the sharing economy and Native American issues in marketing. Dr. Lawson earned her bachelor’s master’s and doctorate degrees from Florida State University. Dr. Lawson can be reached by email, lawsonsj1@appstate.edu.

Trish Oxford

Patricia (Trish) Oxford will serve as an adjunct faculty member in the department. Oxford previously served as senior director of digital services at Material Bank. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill and an MFA from California College of Arts. Oxford can be reached by email, oxfordps@appstate.edu.

Jamie Yoch

Jamie Yoch will serve as an adjunct faculty member in the department. Yoch is a co-owner of Stanley Specialty Pharmacy, a compounding-only pharmacy based in Charlotte, NC. Previously, she has taught at Central Piedmont Community College and Midlands Technical College. Yoch earned her bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University, an MMC (IMC) from the University of South Carolina - Columbia and a post-graduate certificate from East Carolina University.  Yoch can be reached by email, yochjg@appstate.edu.

Notably, Barbara Rule, who previously served as senior lecturer in the department, will return to teaching this semester.

The new faculty and members join a team of around 150 business faculty and staff members already in place.
