We are Walker: Aaron Ratcliffe

We are Walker

The Walker College of Business values diversity as the expression of human similarities and differences, as well as the importance of a living and learning environment conducive to knowledge, respect, acceptance, understanding and global awareness. Like our students, our professors are multi-faceted.

One facet of Aaron Ratcliffe, an assistant professor in the college's Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management, is being an old-time string musician.

The group performed for Watauga County School students in the Schaefer Center on Appalachian's campus Oct. 23, 2019.

Named for the waterway that runs through campus and is steeped in Boone history, the core members of the Kraut Creek Ramblers are all faculty and staff members at Appalachian State University. In addition to Ratcliffe, who provides fiddle, guitar, bass, vocals, the core members are Julie Shepherd-Powell (banjo) and Alex Hooker (fiddle), professors of Appalachian Studies, and Trevor McKenzie (fiddle, guitar, vocals), archivist in the Special Collections at Belk Library. Other rotating members of the band include a variety of talented multi-instrumentalists-all students, faculty or staff at Appalachian.
