Female business students participate in two-day professional experience and celebration

Twenty-four female Appalachian State University business students traveled to Charlotte April 14-15 to celebrate their semester-long accomplishments and completion of the Women of Walker program.

IMG_1356web.jpgActivities included a networking social, which served as a forum for the students to showcase professional skills developed throughout the spring semester, and a pinning ceremony. Each member received a pin to symbolize and serve as a reminder of how individuals can be empowered through professional development and partnerships.

Red Ventures served as host to the students as well as to female professionals who live and work in the Charlotte area.

Five female professionals participated in a professional panel discussion, providing the Women of Walker an opportunity to ask candid questions about challenges each female professional has faced in a predominantly male industry.

The day ended with a tour of Red Venture's state of the art facilities. Red Ventures provided a company overview and shared employment opportunities available to graduates. Founded in 2000, Red Ventures employs more than 2,300 people and is the country's largest technology-enabled platform for growing sales and marketing businesses. Its expertise spans across multiple industries including Home Services, Energy, Financial Services, Insurance and Software.

"The group traveled back to Boone with a new found understanding of the power of connections with one another and the business world around them," said Women of Walker co-director Amy Odom.

The Women of Walker program aims to accelerate professional development, personal growth, and leadership abilities for female business majors at Appalachian State University through networking, career exploration, travel, and professional development workshops and seminars. The program is coordinated through the Walker College of Business' BB&T Student Leadership Center; learn more about Women of Walker.
