Interim department chairs named in Appalachian’s Walker College of Business

Dinesh Davé, Mike Dotson, and Delbert Goff have been appointed to leadership positions in Appalachian State University's Walker College of Business, effective July 1, 2016.

The professors will serve as interim chairs for the Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management; the Department of Marketing; and the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance, respectively.

"I am very pleased to have Dr. Davé, Dr. Dotson and Dr. Goff in their new roles in the Walker College of Business," said business school dean Heather Norris. "With their vast years of experience and previous leadership roles, their transitions into the interim chair roles should be seamless."

Dinesh Dave Appalachian State UniversityDr. Dinesh Davé, a professor of supply chain management, has been named interim chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management.

Davé joined the Walker College of Business as an associate professor in 1988 and was promoted to professor in 1992. He was instrumental in developing Appalachian's Supply Chain Management program and received the Walker College's Sywassink Award for Excellence in Service in 2015 and in 2009. Currently, he serves on the boards of the APICS Foothills Chapter, the North Carolina League of Transportation and Logistics, the Branch Banking Trust Company of Boone and the NC Department of Transportation Freight Advisory Committee. Davé established the Appalachian Supply Chain Club and serves as the faculty advisor. Davé is also involved in academic research, serving on the editorial review board of the International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management, the Coastal Business Review and the International Journal of Management and Social Sciences. Davé was awarded the Sywassink Award for Excellence in Research in 1996 and the college's Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Davé received his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in statistics from Gujarat University in India and received a master's of science degree in Information Systems from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies (now Marshall University, South Charleston Campus). Davé is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Davé replaces Dr. Dawn Medlin, who served as chair of the department from 2007 to 2013 and since July 2015. Medlin will return to teaching in the department.

Mike Dotson Appalachian State UniversityDr. Mike Dotson, a professor of marketing, has been named interim chair of the Department of Marketing.

Dotson joined Appalachian's faculty in 1983, and, before coming to Appalachian, taught at Mississippi State University and worked in sales management for Philip Morris Furniture Company. Dotson has published more than 60 journal articles and regularly presents at regional and national conferences. His research interests include marketing analysis, retail, advertising, consumer preference, the hospitality industry and the nursing sector. In 2012, he won the college's Sywassink Award for Excellence in Research. He has previously served as interim chair of the department. Dotson earned his BSBA and MBA degrees from Nicholls State University and his doctorate of business administration from Mississippi State University.

He will take the reins from Dr. Unal Boya, who has served as department chair for 23 years and will return to teaching in the department.

Delbert Goff Appalachian State UniversityDr. Delbert Goff, a professor of finance, has been named interim chair of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance.

Goff, who joined the faculty at Appalachian in 1991, has previously served as department chair during his tenure. Goff was instrumental in creating the Bowden Investment Group and in fundraising for the student managed investment account; he serves as instructor and advisor to the Bowden Investment Group. He received the Walker College's Sywassink Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997. For several years Goff served as a consultant for the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina, Inc. where he was involved in insurance agency valuation. In addition, he has served as an expert witness regarding business valuation and other financial issues. Goff is an active researcher in the area of corporate finance and investments and his research has been published in academic and trade journals. He earned his MBA and a Ph.D. in Finance from Florida State University.

He will assume the chair duties from Dr. Don Cox, who has served as chair since 2014 and will join the faculty at Georgia Southern University this fall.
