According to a recent article from the Asheville Citizen-Times, Ryan Lansche '12 operates GEARU to help other people access the outdoor activities and sports that he loves.
Ryan Lansche worked hard to earn his master's degree in accounting at Appalachian State University in Boone, then went straight to work as a CPA in his coastal hometown of New Bern. But after two years crunching numbers for corporations, the 27-year-old's heart was still back in the Western North Carolina mountains, craving a river ride in a kayak, his mind on a mountain bike. So Lansche tore off his necktie and headed to Asheville without a job. And in the entrepreneurial spirit of the town, making money out of what motivates you, this summer he opened up his own business, Gearu. The outdoor gear rental shop (the name being combination of "gear" and "guru") is based on a gym membership model, where club members pay a monthly fee to rent mountain bikes, kayaks and standup paddleboards whenever they want.
