Appalachian State University Senior Jabari Myles won second place in the student poster contest at the 2016 Appalachian Energy Summit.
Myles, a computer information systems and economics double major and statistics minor, earned the honor and a $150 cash prize for his poster, Peak Power Profiling.
Through his research as a student data scientist for the Center for Analytics Research and Education (CARE), housed in the Walker College of Business, Myles has worked with New River Light and Power to investigate ways to decrease power consumption when demand, and cost, is highest.
"I'm predicting peak energy hours in North Carolina and Boone...with New River Light and Power to actually understand their customers better and figure out how to influence them and decrease their demand during peak energy hours."

After he earns his undergraduate degree from Appalachian, Myles, who is a member of the Walker Fellows, plans to complete a Masters in Analytics and start his own analytical consulting firm.
