Students from Chile, Italy, Mexico, Japan and Spain joined members of Appalachian State University's International Business Student Association (IBSA) September 27 for an International Student Welcome Dinner.
After a full day of networking at Walker Business Connections, IBSA members met the exchange students to play games and share a meal at this bi-annual event co-hosted by IBSA and the Walker College of Business .
Each semester, the Walker College of Business is the 'home away from home' for approximately 20 business majors from around the world taking courses at Appalachian as exchange students.
"Our international students are an asset within the Walker College of Business," said Meredith Church Pipes, Walker College of Business Specialist in Global and Civic Engagement. "These students come from diverse locations around the globe and provide perspectives that can enrich our own both inside and outside the classroom."
According to Pipes, the International Student Welcome Dinner is a way to help these students plug into the campus community and for American students to let them know how much we value their presence.

This event offers the opportunity for the International Business Student Association to live out their guiding principles.
"The International Student Welcome Dinner is one of my favorite events hosted by IBSA," said Connor Bryant, IBSA's marketing chair. "Expanding global perspective and educating students here at Appalachian... is what IBSA is all about."
This fall's event was the fourth of its kind, with the next welcome dinner planned for the beginning of the 2018 spring semester. Students don't have to be a member of IBSA to attend, they just need to have an interest in connecting with international business students.
