Feb. 20 Careers for Impact event to provide forum for students to meet employers whose values align with their own

On Tuesday, February 20, Appalachian State University will host Careers for Impact, a new opportunity to showcase internship and full time employment opportunities with businesses and non-profit organizations whose missions are purpose-driven with a focus on creating a sustainable and inclusive economy.

The event will be held in the Plemmons Student Union with concurrent sessions planned for 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. that will focus on Science for Good, Sustainable Business and Social Entrepreneurship and Social Impact and Advocacy.

According to Susan McCracken, Director of Career Development and Economic Engagement at Appalachian, the event will help students begin to identify the type of workplace culture they want, network with employers whose values are aligned with theirs and learn about current and future work opportunities with those companies.

The event aligns with strategic goals in the Walker College of Business, according to Walker College of Business professor of accounting  and Impact Clinic Director Tammy Kowalczyk.

"This is the first career fair that is specifically focused on bringing employers who have a mission of 'Business for Good' (including many B Corps), as well as nonprofit organizations that create positive impacts," said Kowalczyk. "It is targeted towards students from a multitude of disciplines who want to work for employers that are mission driven."
