Walker College of Business alumnus Jimmy Barnes '84 has been named chair of the NAI Global 2019 Leadership Board.
Barnes is president of NAI Carolantic and is a past chair of the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees.
The announcement was made at the NAI Global Annual Convention in Austin, Texas. NAI Global is a leading global commercial real estate brokerage firm.

Barnes has more than 28 years of commercial real estate experience in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The last 26 years have been with NAI Carolantic Realty. He was named president of the company in 2001. A specialist in all areas of leasing and sales, Barnes has been involved in more than $100 million of transactions just over the last few years with total transactions exceeding one million square feet. He provides exclusive tenant, buyer and landlord representative services to local, corporate and investment companies, and has represented large Class A office developments for investors in Cary, Raleigh and the Research Triangle Park area.
He has won numerous awards to include the 2012 National Commercial Award presented by NAR for outstanding achievement in the commercial real estate industry. He was also named the Commercial Realtor of the Year in 2011 by the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors. This is the highest honor given by the association and indicates the recipient has the highest principles, dedication to the Code of Ethics of the Association and most importantly, has the principals of good real estate practice.
